  • Perfect Cooked Rice

    A simple method for fluffy, perfectly cooked rice — no microwave, no plastic pouches.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup rice (white basmati or long grain)

    • 2 cups water

    • Pinch of sea salt (optional)

    Method

    • Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

    • Place the rice, water, and sea salt (if using) into a saucepan.

    • Bring to the boil over medium heat.

    • Once boiling, reduce to the lowest heat and cover with a tight-fitting lid.

    • Cook gently for 10 minutes without lifting the lid.

    • After 10 minutes, the water should be absorbed. Turn off the heat and leave the lid on for at least another 10 minutes to steam.

    • Fluff with a fork and serve.

    Tips

    Swap water for stock to add flavour.

    Leaving the lid on for the resting period is key — it lets the rice finish cooking in its own steam.
